Hey, Jiahui here, a Year 2 Design For User Experience student from Republic Polytechnic. Guided by an open mind and a grateful heart, I value respect for others, honesty, and the courage to step out of comfort zones. I deeply cherish my relationships with friends and family, appreciating the support and guidance they provide. Naturally optimistic and curious, life is approached as a journey full of opportunities and challenges, embraced with a dependable and passionate spirit.
Fueled by curiosity, creativity, and a deep passion for design, I see design as more than visuals; it is about shaping experiences that resonate, bringing purpose to life and uncovering the core of every project. My interests in UX and UI, spatial, and fashion design stem from my love of learning and creating something new. I see the world through a lens of beauty, where every detail holds the potential to be art. Being meticulous and curious allows me to observe my surroundings keenly and think about how experiences can be improved, fueling my passion for creativity and innovation.
During my free time, you can catch me wandering around discovering new places, crafting pottery, or simply taking in the world around me. I love engaging in meaningful conversations that spark new ideas and perspectives.
For me, life is a journey of learning, growing, and appreciating every step. Two quotes I live by guide this journey: “After all, there is no finish line,” reminding me that growth and discovery never truly end, and “slow down and smell the flowers,” encouraging me to appreciate the little joys along the way.
My Gap Years
In 2023, I pursued a course in Sports Science to align with my interests and meet my family’s expectations, but I soon realized it wasn’t the right path for me. As I found solace in the Botanic Gardens, I learned to see beauty in everything around me and grew to be more meticulous over time, with the tranquility and nearby architecture sparking a deeper passion for design and architecture.
Determined to explore this newfound interest, I took another gap year to fully immerse myself in new experiences. I became more involved in my church, planning camps and designing event posters, while also working as a barista at a café, where I contributed creatively by designing menus and promotional materials. I also engaged in volunteering activities, which allowed me to give back to the community while developing empathy and teamwork skills. Additionally, helping my parents design the interior of my new home deepened my love for design and architecture.
By 2023, my interest in design had grown significantly. These transformative years taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of embracing challenges. I adopted a mindset of "more acceptance, fewer expectations," viewing my mind as a garden where positive, growth-oriented thoughts could flourish.
These experiences brought balance and fulfillment to my life, shaping a renewed outlook as I continue to pursue my passions with purpose and authenticity.
